Fomalhaut has left from us
| On Thursday 15 April 1999 Fomalhaut left us.
In our last number we mentioned that due to illness Fomalhaut was no longer able to work with us. We thanked him for all he had done as Director of publication and editorialist. He committed himself to this task with great efficiency, availability, honesty and faithfulness as in all he undertook. Such an abrupt end has left a great void for all those who knew him and appreciated his lucidity of mind. We have lost a friend but also a dynamic and perspicacious personality who was always ready to take an active part in the evolution of our association, while at the same time maintaining all its assets. He was one of its most remarkable members through his competence, sense of responsibility and generous sympathy. All of us who knew him and worked with him experience a deep personal loss and treasure the memory of a kind, welcoming gentleman who was gently, moderate, lively and witty, fraternal and most respectful of all persons. He had spent several decades in Egypt and then in Sudan and he certainly contributed to the life of these countries through his immense love for their peoples. The sufferings endured by the Sudanese people affected him deeply. That is why, once back in France, he participated in the creation of the "Vigilance Committee for Human Rights and Liberties in Sudan" We were better able to analyse and understand the actuality of Sudan in the light of its history thanks to his knowledge, capacity for synthesis and clear, penetrating style. In the name of all our collaborators and readers we should like to express our deep sympathy to his wife and family. Yes, we shall continue the fight that we engaged in with Fomalhaut so that the Sudanese people enjoy once more a lasting peace, based on equality for all and respect for human rights. Goodbye Fomalhaut ! Your memory will live on in our hearts.
