Chapter 6 : TCHAD

Njamena attack, carried out by Chad rebels who were coming from the Sudan were suspended just short of total victory. They had apparently decided to set up an interim government made up of a council controlled by civilians from the opposition and by military leaders . In the heat of the battle, Mahomet Nuri, who was running out of ammunition, let it known that he was to be the head of this interim government . The other leaders were so outraged that they bluntly refused to provide him with ammunition and they were all compelled to pull back . A political conference was supposed to be held in the offing. Deby took this opportunity to have the main political opponents arrested and most probably, one of th em put to death . Beshir, once more, welcomed in Darfur the Chad rebels in order to keep a close eye on, and a tight control over them. At the Islamic Summit Conference grouping 50 states (one of them being Turkey ) at the beginning of March, Sudan and Chad signed a non-aggression pact prohibiting the use of their respective territories as a base for forces aiming at destabilizing the other . Too good to be true!

Death of Gilles Polin An official vehicle of Eufor “accidentally” crossed the border between Chad and Sudan at a place where the border was ill-defined, and the Sudanese opened fire on it. Khartoum said that that nomads had come across the Sergeant who was simply wounded, but had abandoned him “for lack of a common language”. This explanation is just a smoke screen . At the request of the European Powers, Sudan organised a search for the Sergeant by nomads, and then said that he was carrying a grenade, and that this grenade exploded and killed four nomads . A good opportunity for Khartoum to claim an indemnity of $ 10,000 for each victime. Is the Khartoum Regime prepared to pay the same amount of money for every one of the Darfur people who have died since the beginning of the war of repression Khartoum is conducting?
