Foreign Affairs

African Union The president of Tanzania has been elected president of the AU.

China , irritated by the public protests against policy towards Darfur during the build-up to the Olympic Games; will their policy change? China 's special envoy to Sudan told the Sudanese Foreign Affairs Minister Deng Alor, “The world is losing patience with what is happening in Darfur… Sudan should not do anything which would push the international community to impose sanctions upon them.”

United States Washington blocked Sudanese goods after an American court ordered Sudan to pay $8 million to the families of Marines killed in the explosion of the USS Cole (VS 144). Sudan however avenged itself: while the US is building an enormous embassy in Khartoum that will house an intelligence center for Eastern Africa , the border control has blocked the American building materials until the Sudanese goods are released. Americans are talking about abandoning the project, which has already cost them $40 million (ST 13 01).
