MOTIVATIONS
| ‘Vigilance Soudan’ was created by people militating for the Human Rights around a group of former residents in Sudan. As is usually the case with all those who have lived in the Sudan for some time, they had fallen in love with the country and its noble and generous people. They could not sit idle while the country was physically and morally raped under their eyes after the 1989 coup d’état. From then onwards, many testimonies came to reinforce their opinion on what was really going on in the Sudan. Rony Brauman, who was at the head of ‘Médecins Sans Frontières’, declared that the Sudan had the unenviable privilege of beating all other countries in the world in perpetrating horrors among the local population. Pope John Paul II expressed the opinion that the great majority of the Christians in the Sudan were reliving Christ’s passion on Calvary in their every day life. Gaspar Biro, special envoy of the United Nations, has for several years not minced his words to stigmatise the violation of all human rights at all levels throughout the Sudan; in the districts where civil strife is rife, he speaks of ‘massacres, enslavement, and the use of famine as a weapon’. |

MEANS OF ACTION
| The Association lives and develops thanks to financial subsidies and contributions from supporters. This is as good an occasion as any to say thank you to all of them for their generosity and that we need then more than ever. |
